Margaret Arcady Scatchard

Following graduation, my twin and I were off to Gainesville to party with the best of the Gators. Al studied accounting while I finished with a BS in Biology! I remain a RABID Gator fan – as do my two children and their spouses – all alums too.

Following graduation from UF, I married and moved to St. Petersburg, then Houston, and back to Tampa in 1968. During that time, I had two lovely children…Susan Lee (45) and Harry L Baker III (41). In 1989, following our divorce, I returned to my birthplace (New Canaan, CT) where my brother Alex was also living – and working in New York. I spent an interesting four years working at Silver Hill Hospital (the Betty Ford of New England) in New Canaan and met some famous and quirky patients!

I married Bill Scatchard, former G.M. of the Hyatt Sarasota, in 1993 and moved to Lancaster, PA. Then off to Madison, Wisconsin for a couple of years and finally home again to Florida – Deland specifically, where we currently live. We have five grandchildren (13,10,9,5,3) and one more due in July….Bill’s youngest daughter Amy. My grandson carries on his father’s family name - Harry L. Baker IV – whom we dubbed “HB” for short.

Bill and I started a hotel related business fourteen years ago (in Madison) called Creative Breakfast Concepts. We supply over 10,000 hotels (Hampton Inns, Comfort Suites, Quality Inns, Sleep Inns, LaQuinta Inns, Best Westerns) with all the items needed to present a complimentary breakfast. It’s fun, challenging and sometimes frustrating! But, it’s all ours, business is good and it has allowed us to travel to some great places like Thailand, Malasia and Singapore on a clipper ship/Istanbul and the Greek Islands on a small 400 passenger liner and the Caribbean on a smaller Tall Ship. And, there’s still a couple of states I haven’t been in yet, so we have lots to look forward to.

Our lives are busy with children, grandkids, our business , our new dog Cooper, three cats, occasional tennis, a couple of hikes each year with good friends, a yearly summer family reunion and one yearly vacation. We are especially fond of hiking in Maine and Utah where the terrains are very dissimilar, yet beautiful. We stick to the national parks which could not be better!

It has been the greatest treat to come back home for the reunion committee meetings….I sure look forward to October and seeing so many classmates again. I can’t imagine who would miss this!!!!
