After getting an AA degree from Manatee Jr. College in 1962, I moved to Clearwater, Florida, and have lived here ever since. I worked as a medical transcriber at a hospital in St. Petersburg for a couple of years, and then went to work as a secretary for Honeywell Space Systems in Clearwater, a job which eventually morphed into executive administrative assistant. I retired from Honeywell in 2007, after 41 years of service. Through the years, it was fun and exciting to know that 100% of all NASA projects and 75% of all other space projects used equipment that was manufactured at our Clearwater Honeywell facility . My first husband Don and I had one daughter, Dawn. Don was a machine designer/draftsman at Electronic Communications. Inc. in St. Pete and later at Florida Power Corp. We shared 19 years before Don died of lung cancer in 1983. Three years later I married Hans (a nice German boy, as his neighbors called him, when he arrived in this country at age 10). Between the two of us, we have four daughters (Hans - 3, Terry -1) and nine sweet grandchildren. Hans is a meat cutter, and for 16 years we had a butcher shop which Hans operated while I had the “real job.” Hans currently cuts meat for Stock Yards Meat Packing Co., a division of U.S. Food Service. In 1996, Hans and I traveled to Germany so Hans could meet his biological father for the first time. After I retired, I joined fellow 1960 SHS graduate Elaine Coffin as a volunteer at the local SPCA once a week, where we both show cats. Great fun -- and I’ve only adopted two cats from there since I began volunteering….. So, between three local daughters & their guys, seven local grandkids, pet cats and pet birds, we keep busy! Looking forward to seeing everyone in October |
